North Fort Myers, FL: April Freeman, the 2014 Democratic Nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in southwest Florida has announced her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida’s 17th Congressional District.
After Florida Congressional Redistricting lines were approved, April filed to run in the newly formed District 17. The paperwork filed moves her campaign out of Congressional District 19 which is currently represented by Republican Curt Clawson and encompasses large sections of Lee and Collier County
April stated, “After reviewing the new Congressional maps, my team and I believe a strong candidate, like myself has an excellent chance to reach the voters of District 17. Voters are looking for change and a representative who has the guts to stand up in Congress to represent the people first. I will be a new voice for a new district.”
Florida’s Congressional District 17 is currently represented by Republican Tom Rooney and includes south Sarasota, southwest Polk, Hardee, DeSoto, Okeechobee, Glades, Charlotte and northeast Lee county.
“My team and I have hit the ground running with a strong plan. We have an active and aggressive campaign already working both smart and hard to ensure victory this November. The impact I make in Washington will be good for all of Florida and our nation,” said April about this crucial move in her run for Congress.
