Florida Politics

Dear Members and Supporters:

At the Florida Democratic Party Conference in October, delegates will be able to present and vote on resolutions that will guide the party on policy positions. I'm pleased to announce that the DPCF recently passed the Charter School Moratorium Resolution unanimously.

We have two more resolutions (to date) that we would like you to consider. A majority of the board encourages a YES vote on both resolutions.

The DPCF is introducing a resolution to withhold endorsement and active support from anti-choice candidates. This resolution is being proposed in response to national Democratic leaders encouraging the recruitment of anti-choice candidates. Abortion rights are guaranteed in the United States Constitution, and support of these rights are enshrined in the Democratic Party Platform. We believe that candidates who call themselves Democrats should support the constitution and the party platform.

We have been asked my DPCF members and supporters in the Panhandle area to support their resolution against the privatization of public beaches in Escambia County. The beaches were deeded to the public by an act of Congress in 1947. Republican Representative Matt Gaetz introduced a bill in Congress to reverse that act. The bill passed the House and is now in the Senate. It has support from Senator Rubio but Senator Nelson is undecided. By speaking very clearly that Democrats are opposed to this bill, we hope Senator Nelson will also oppose it.
(The resolution is written in a format for Democratic Executive Committees.)

A Survey Monkey poll containing both resolutions will be sent to members only on Wednesday. Voting will remain open until Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 12:00 Noon.

If you would like to participate in the vote but are not a member, please join the caucus! Memberships paid after September 1st are effective through 2018.

Thank you!
Susan Smith
